A man died of injuries sustained in a vehicle-pedestrian crash Oct. 3 in Hilo, police said.
His name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of his family.
Officers responding to a 7:43 p.m. call determined that southbound 2007 Dodge pickup struck a male pedestrian near the 500 block of Kilauea Avenue. The man reportedly was not in a crosswalk.
The pedestrian was taken to Hilo Medical Center, then transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where he died at 6:39 a.m. Oct. 4.
An autopsy by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office determined that he died of injuries sustained in the traffic crash.
The driver of the pickup was not injured and police do not believe that speed or alcohol were factors for his role in the crash.
Police do believe the pedestrian had been drinking.
This is the 23rd traffic fatality this year compared with 16 at this time last year.
